LACEY, Wash. – The Corban Warriors played spoiler on Friday, knocking off the Saints 2-to-0 in SMU's home opener to the 2021 campaign.
Maria-Frances Serrant, leading goal scorer for the Warriors (4-0-0) on the year, adding to her tally, punching in goal number four and five on the season. Her first came in the 23rd minute, and the score remained 1-to-0 until the 82nd minute when she rifled a ball past the diving hands of
Ali Campigotto to secure the win.
Saint Martin's (0-3-0) managed to outshoot the Warriors 18-to-13, including 11-to-6 in the second half. However, SMU was never able to finish on the play and capitalize on the opportunities.
Salma Perez recorded both her shots on net, while
Shelby Clayton managed a shot on target as well.
Six different Saints ended with two shots, and 12 different players managed to get into the shot column. Campigotto finished with four saves on the day, facing 13 shots.
Saint Martin's continues their home stand on Monday, September 13, taking on local rival The Evergreen State College Geoducks. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 PM with live stats and video available on smusaints.com.
