LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's put the pressure on Sonoma State early, forcing a Seawolves' own goal in the opening minutes. However, Sonoma State was able to settle down and defeat SMU 4-to-1 to close out the weekend of soccer action.
In the 10th minute, a ball deep into the Seawolves (2-2-0) back line allowed
Jason Fairhurst to force Sonoma State into committing an errant clear that went into the back of the net. But the Saints' lead did not last long when a penalty in the box gave the Seawolves the opportunity to tie.
Sean Rohane connected on the PK to tie the match in the 13th minute. The match remained tied at 1-to-1 until halftime. Sonoma State capitalized early in the second half, scoring in first half five minutes to take the lead, one that they never gave up. Another PK in the 56th and a final goal in the 87th minute sealed the victory for the Seawolves.
Saint Martin's connected on 11 shots with four landing on target.

Jason Fairhurst adding one apiece.
The Saints travel to Texas for their next two matches, starting with Northeastern State on Thursday, September 16 at 3:30 PM.
