LUBBOCK, Texas – Saint Martin's punched open a 3-1 lead over University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, before the Mountain Lions managed to tie up the match, and finish with a golden goal to stun the Saints 4-3.
Diego Andrade got the scoring started for the Saints (1-5-0), notching home his first career goal in a Saints' uniform in the 28th minute. Assisting on the play was
David Settle.
Colorado Springs (2-1-1) tied up the match with just 49 seconds left in the half. However, the action was not done in the first half. Just 20 seconds after the goal, and only 27 seconds left on the board,
Isaac Hernandez netted his first goal of the season to put SMU back on top 2-1 heading into the break.
In the second half, in the 59th minute, Saint Martin's was awarded a penalty kick, and SMU elected leading scorer
Jason Fairhurst to take the kick. The senior punched home his third goal of the season to put SMU on top 3-1.
However, the Mountain Lions in the 73rd minute cut into the lead with a goal, and just minutes later, the match was tied with UCCS' second goal of the half.
Just 1:52 minutes into overtime, Colorado Springs managed to steal the victory away from the Saints with a goal, the second of the game from Kolby Raineri.
Both sides collected 11 shots, with the Saints landing seven on net.
Hunter Askland played the full match in goal, recording four saves on the 11 shots faced.
