Saints Roll Past Western Oregon 2-0

LACEY, Wash. – In their first official GNAC match since the end of 2019, Saint Martin's notched another shutout victory, their second in a row, this time a 2-0 victory over Western Oregon.

Maddie Wolff broke the stalemate in the 32nd minute on a ball 5-yards outside the top of the box. Off an assist from Justine Pauly, Wolff connected to the top left corner of the net, giving Saint Martin's (2-3-0, 1-0-0) a lead going into halftime. Elisabeth Cole clinched the match in the 79th minute with her first goal of the season, coming off an assist from Rebecca Garrison to seal the 2-0 result.

The goals marked the first for both Wolff, and Cole. For the Saints' six goals in 2021, each has been scored by a different Saint.

Starting in goal for the Saints was Soph Mendoza, who recorded their first shutout of their career. Mendoza, who combined for a shutout against Evergreen State, rolled to another clean sheet, the second of the year for Saint Martin's. Mendoza registered two saves on 11 shots faced.

Saint Martin's outshot their opponent Western Oregon (1-4-0, 0-1-0) 12-to-11, including 9-to-6 in the second half.

In the final minutes, Western Oregon had a couple opportunities to get on the board, but the Saints' defense buckled down and held on for the victory.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, traveling to Simon Fraser for a noon kick-off. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.
