Saints Drop Battle Against Tritons In Final Minutes

ST LOUIS – Playing their second game in 48 hours in Missouri, another late goal proved to be the difference maker in a 1-0 loss to Missouri-St. Louis for Saints' Women's Soccer.

The first half turned into a defensive stalemate with neither side giving an inch. The Saints (0-2-0) recorded two shots from Kiersten Madsen, and Jordyn Jolley, but neither were able to find the net.

In the second 45 minutes of action, it looked to be going the same route until the 80th minute. Eylesa Kellam notched the game-winning goal to push the Tritons (2-0-0) to the victory. Saint Martin's was unable to set up a counterattack in the final 10 minutes and will look to turn their fortune around in their home opener.

Saint Martin's ended with five shots in the match, with Shelby Clayton recording the lone shot on goal. Ali Campigotto played a full 90 in goal, making seven saves on 13 shots faced.

"We didn't play our style of soccer today, which hurt us," said head coach Heather Cato. "The moments we did, we created things going forward. This week, we are looking to build off what we learned and move forward."

Saint Martin's makes the return trip to host Corban for their home opener on Friday, September 10. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.

Attendance for the match will be free as part of the Saints' Welcome Back Fans weekend. All Saint Martin's home events from September 9 – 11 will be free to attend.
