Saints' 7-Game Win Streak Comes To A Close At Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE – Putting their seven-game win streak on the line at Seattle Pacific, it was a last second 3-pointer from SPU that snapped the streak with a 68-65 decision on Monday afternoon.

Saint Martin's (11-4, 4-2 GNAC) led by as many as 10 in the second half, before Seattle Pacific (9-7, 2-3) caught fire. SPU turned the double-digit deficit into a nine-point lead before the Saints responded and tied the game late. The Saints came up with one defensive stop late, and gave themselves a chance to win, but misfired on the attempt, and left enough time for the Falcons to set up another attempt. With no time left on the clock, Shaw Anderson drilled the 3-pointer to snap the GNAC's longest win streak of the season.

Seattle Pacific scored the first basket of the game before the Saints went on an 8-0 run to take control. Thompson, who finished the half with a team-high 10 points, scored six of the first eight points.

SPU managed to trim the lead down to two before back-to-back 3-pointers from Kyle Greeley put SMU up large, 19-11, halfway through the first half.  The Falcons responded with an 11-3 run, taking the lead at one point, before SMU heated up before the break. Over the final five minutes, Saint Martin's outscored the Falcons 17-9, and cruised into the locker room with a 39-31 lead.

Seattle Pacific opened the second half on fire, going for a 21-8 run to take a three-point lead at the 12:00 minute mark. The Falcons' lead grew to as many as eight in the second half with seven minutes left on the clock.

The Saints began chipping away at the lead with a pair of baskets from Jaden Nielsen-Skinner and Marky Adams, cutting the score to one possession with four minutes left. With more offense from Thompson and Adams, the Saints managed to tie up the game, 65-65 heading into the final seconds. Nielsen-Skinner had an opportunity to put SMU on top, but missed the 3-pointer, leading to a last second chance for the Falcons. Anderson, who led SPU with 19 points, connected on the final shot to snap the Saints' seven game winning streak.

Saint Martin's continues their road trip to Ellensburg to take on Central Washington on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
