Wildcats Use First Half Goal to Defeat Saints

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Saint Martin's fell 1-0 on the road against Central Washington after surrendering a sole goal in the first half.

The Saints (4-7-1, 2-6-1 GNAC) and the Wildcats (3-7-3, 2-5-2 GNAC) played a tightly-contested match that was decided by a single goal.

In the first half, Saint Martin's offense struggled with zero shots and the Wildcats pressured SMU for most of the half with ten shots before their final shot of the half in the 44th minute found its way past Saints' goalkeeper Soph Mendoza for the first goal of the match.

SMU found their footing in the second half with 10 shots of their own from Mia Fleming, Brianna Yamada, Faith Hahn-Landis (2) and Raven Mummey including four shots on goal from Maria Pagnotta (2), Salma Perez and Maddie Wolff. The Saints had their opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net before the match ended in a 1-0 win for CWU.

Despite the loss, Mendoza had a quality showing in goal with five saves on 16 shots faced.

The Saints have no time to dwell on the loss as their next match is this Saturday, October 15 against Northwest Nazarene at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
