Saints Secure Another Win in Capital City Classic

LACEY, Wash. – The Saints hosted their cross-town rival The Evergreen State College and emerge victorious against the Geoducks, 70-49.

Kyle Greeley (11) and Champ Spencer (10) were the only two double digits scorers for SMU (5-0, 0-0) in their win over Evergreen (0-4, 0-0) as the scoring was spread pretty evenly throughout the roster. Tyke Thompson narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds to go along with his eight points.

The Geoducks had every intention of turning the tide in this aged rivalry and came out firing on all cylinders. Evergreen opened the game with an impressive no-look bounce pass to set up their first basket of the game. Saint Martin's promptly responded with a basket of their own from Greeley to put the Saints in the scoring column and tie the game a 2-2. The Geoducks jumped out to a 15-9 lead midway through the half behind a 10-2 run. The Saints responded with a 13-3 run of their own to put them up 22-18 with just over six minutes left in the half. SMU closed out the half with a 6-0 run to head into the locker room with a 30-23 lead.

Despite their shooting woes from beyond the arc, Saint Martin's found more offense in the second half and extended their lead. Paint touches became the theme as the Saints offset their uncharacteristic shooting night with 42 points in the paint and 30 second chance points. SMU went on to win 70-49.

Head coach Aaron Landon shared his thoughts on the Saints offense and the upcoming matchup, "Tonight we had a bad start and didn't shoot it well. We won because of the offensive glass and second chance points. We'll focus on Thanksgiving and preparing to play a really good Academy of Art team on Friday."

SMU will eat well and enjoy Thanksgiving before their big match up on Black Friday, November 15th against Academy of Art at 4 PM. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com
