Saints Break the Century Mark and Beat the Blues

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's took a brief break from GNAC play with a game against Capilano University and cruised to a 104-69 win over the Blues.

The Saints raised the temperature in Marcus Pavilion as they caught fire from deep in the victory against Capilano. SMU made 17 three-pointers from nine different players on an efficient 53% shooting from beyond the arc and 56% from the field.

Tyke Thompson led all scorers with 15 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field to go along with five rebounds, five steals and three assists in just 20 minutes on the floor. Hunter Sipe led the team in rebounds with seven to go along with his 11 points. The other Saints that scored double-digits included Champ Spencer (13), Kyle Greeley (12) and Jaden Nielsen-Skinner (10). This game also provided Branden Bunn (7) and Brycen Dillworth (7) a great opportunity to show their play-making ability as the two combined for 14 of the team's 33 assists.

The Blues scored the first two baskets of the game before Thompson laced a three pointer to score the first basket of the night for Saint Martin's. Capilano jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead before a pair of threes from Greeley and Nielsen-Skinner put SMU on top 9-8 early. The Blues were determined to make a statement early and held a 19-11 over the Saints with just under 14 minutes left in the half. SMU closed out the half with a 42-11 run to put them up 53-30 heading into the locker room.

The second half was more of the same as the Saints continued to hit threes and extend their lead. With 1:20 left in the game, Marcus Lenker received a pass from Dillworth and made the basket that put the Saints in triple digits and sent the student section of Marcus Pavilion into a frenzy. SMU finished out the game and won 104-69.

Head coach Aaron Landon reflected on his team's performance with, "We got the shots we wanted tonight and scored a lot of points but our defensive focus wasn't where it was this past weekend. We'll have our hands full with a D-I opponent on Saturday night and these next few days of preparation will be important."

SMU's next game will be a true test of their mettle as they match up against D-I opponent Weber State for an exhibition game on Saturday, December 10th at 5 PM. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
