Saints' Electric Offense Puts Up 94 In Win At Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Trailing at halftime, Saint Martin's put together one of their most complete halves of basketball all season, outscoring Central Washington by 14, and flying past the Wildcats for a 94-83 victory.

Central Washington (11-5, 5-4 GNAC) had no answer for the Saints' (14-4, 7-2) electric offense in the second half of play. Kyle Greeley led the way with a team-high 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting, along with five rebounds. Guards Alex Schumacher (20 points, five rebounds), and Jaden Nielsen-Skinner (nine points, 10 assists) controlled the tempo from the outside. Tyke Thompson, and Brett Reed both finished with 17 points, and six rebounds each. The five Saints combined for 87 of the Saints' 94 points, 26 of the 31 rebounds, and 19 of the 21 assists.

Saint Martin's quickly set the tone for the game in the opening minutes, outscoring Central 14-to-5. Despite the hot start, the Wildcats managed to chip away at the lead over the course of the next 10 minutes, eventually tying the game up at 25-25.

Central Washington took their first lead of the game at the 4:53 mark and extended it out to as much as seven with two minutes. Needing a momentum shift before half, baskets from Thompson, and Greeley, along with a layup by Reed helped push the game back to a tie before a last second 3-pointer by the Wildcats ended the half 44-41 Central Washington.

The Wildcats lead only held for a few minutes in the second half before the Saints took over the game for good. A fastbreak jumper from Greeley put SMU on top 53-52, and the Saints never looked back.

Saint Martin's fast paced, unselfish basket gave them a 69-60 lead at the 10:00 mark, capped off by a dunk from Reed off an assist from Thompson. Central Washington struggled to slow down the pace of the game as the Saints continued to put pressure on the Wildcats. The Saints iced the game at line, converting their final four attempts in the final minute of the game to improve to a GNAC best 7-2 in conference action.

The action continues for the Saints on Thursday, February 3 inside Marcus Pavilion as SMU hosts MSU Billings at 7:00 PM. Live stats and video of the game will be available on smusaints.com.
