BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After dropping their last three conference games, the Saints needed to come up clutch in Bellingham against Western Washington. Thirteen 3-pointers later, the Saints blew out Western Washington 86-68 to get back into the win column.
The Saints (15-7, 8-5 GNAC) were locked in right from the start. Going 13-for-25 beyond the arc, five different Saints players ended with multiple 3-pointers.
Alex Schumacher led the team with four makes from beyond for 17 points, while
Kyle Greeley led all scorers with 24 and three 3-pointers.
Christian Haffner,
Champ Spencer, and
Goy Wang each contributed another two 3-pointers.
Saint Martin's scored the first basket of the game before the Vikings (12-10, 5-7) tied it up on the following possession.
Brett Reed came down the floor to make a layup and the Saints never looked back.
SMU led the whole rest of the way, jumping out to an early 23-11 lead with 12 minutes left in the half. The Saints' offense had everyone on the floor contributing as all seven players on the floor in the first half scored at least once. By the end of the half, Saint Martin's led 50-35.
Western Washington never found any sort of crack in the Saints' armor in the second half as SMU's lead extended out to as many as 25. The Saints smallest lead in the second half was 13 as the Saints outpaced the Vikings for a full 40 minutes, cruising to the 86-68 victory.
