Hawaii Pacific Takes Two From Saints

WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Taking on Hawaii Pacific in a doubleheader on Saturday, Saint Martin's fell in both ends, 9-2 and 4-3 in extra innings in game two.

In the opener, the Saints were the first on the board in the fourth inning, scoring a run on a wild pitch by Hawaii Pacific. Aaron Renaud scored on the play, who reached earlier in the inning on a double through the right side.

Hawaii Pacific tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth on a sac-fly and took their first lead in the fifth on an RBI double to right.

Jonathan Shimaburkuro tied the game up once again in the top of the sixth on his single to center, along with an error on the play by the HPU defense that brought home Dakota Hill.

Unfortunately for the Saints, the offense stopped there as the Sharks scored the final seven runs of the game to take the opener 9-2.

Sam McCauley (0-3) took the loss after going 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, only one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts. Zach Alcos, Kameron Richards, and Colin Driscoll combined to toss the final 2.2 innings out of the pen.

The second game began just the like first, with the Saints getting on the board first in the fourth inning. The inning began with a single from Renaud to center. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out, and a hit-by-pitch later, Bryant Nakagawa drove in the first run with his RBI single through the right side, scoring Renaud.

After a pitching change, Shimaburkuro laid down a sac bunt to bring in the second run of the inning. Hawaii Pacific proceeded to score the next three runs of the game to take the lead in the fifth inning.

Saint Martin's tied up the score once again in the sixth on an RBI single down the right field line from Reid Little, scoring Nakagawa. In the bottom of the seventh, after allowing the first two batters on-base, Brock Wrolstad forced extra innings by working out of the jam with a line out, a strike out, and finally a fielder's choice.

Unfortunately for the Saints and Wrolstad, they were unable to escape the bases-loaded jam in the eighth, ending the game on a hit-by-pitch.

The series finale doubleheader begins tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 PM pst. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
