CHICO, Calif. – Saint Martin's struggled to find an answer to the Chico State' offense, dropping both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
After a slow start in the opening game, Saint Martin's (0-3) was unable to get the bats going in the second game.
Cody Isa connected on the lone run of the game with his first home run of the season in the fifth inning.
Ryan Driscoll and Collin Driscoll combined to throw a clean 4.1 innings out of pen, with R. Driscoll striking out four.
Chico State (3-0) had scored the first four runs of the game before the Saints got on the board in the second, scoring a run on a fielding error.
Reid Little drove in a run in the fifth before
Griffin Williams knocked home two later in the frame as the Saints fell in the opener.
The Wildcats got off to a hot start in the second game, scoring the opening eight runs of the game. Isa's slam in the fifth inning was not enough to spark the bats as the Saints fell 8-1.
Williams,
Ryne Oshiro, and
Mark Steward all finished the first game with two-hits each, while
Aaron Renaud collected one hit, and walked three times.
Aaron Nease came in for the final three innings, tossing three-hit, one-run relief to calm down the Wildcats' offense.
