MONMOUTH, Ore. – Justice Yamashita continued to build to his resume for GNAC Pitcher of the Year, limiting Western Oregon to just two runs over a complete game, eight-strikeout performance in the Saints' split on Friday.
Western Oregon took the opening game of the four-game series to a tune of 9-2. A two-out two RBI single from
Bryant Nakagawa made it a one run ball game in the fourth before the Wolves closed out the game with the final six runs.
In the second game,
Aaron Renaud provided the early run support, driving in
Ryne Oshiro with an RBI double to right center to make it 1-0.
Yamashita sat down the first seven batters of the game, including striking out the side in the second. Western Oregon managed to tie the game in the third and took the lead in the fourth.
However, the lead did not last long. In the fifth, the Saints tied it up with a sac fly from Oshiro, scoring
Austin Schaler, and advancing
Hunter Kosmider to scoring position. Kosmider later came home on another sac fly, this time off the bat of Renaud to give the Saints back the 3-2.
It was all Yamashita needed, sitting down Western Oregon in order in the fifth, sixth, and seventh. Over the final three innings, Yamashita recorded three strikeouts, three fly outs, two pop ups, and one groundout to secure the win.
The Saints pick up the finale of the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 PM. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
