Saints Lose Close Defensive Battle Against MSU Denver

Burnaby, BC – The Saints traveled up to Burnaby for a neutral site where they lost 1-0 against the Roadrunners.

MSU Denver (1-1-0) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the only goal of the match in the second minute of play and put the pressure on Saint Martin's (1-1-0) early. The Saints had opportunities throughout the match including a penalty kick that would've tied the game but could not capitalize and fell just short of victory.

In the first half, SMU had three shots from Taylor Goodpaster, Taylor Copeland and Sam Bailey. Copeland's shot in the 12th minute accounted for the only shot on goal in the first half, which was shot to the bottom right corner and saved by the keeper.

In the second half, the Saints had a great chance in the 82nd minute of play after a foul in the box occurred which led to Salma Perez being granted a penalty shot but the Roadrunner's keeper made an exceptional play to keep SMU off the board.

After giving up the early goal, Saint Martin's goalkeeper Soph Mendoza had a solid outing with six total saves in the match.

The Saints will take a short break before returning to Saints Field for their next game at home on September, 9 at 3 p.m. against Cal State Monterey Bay. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
