MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Saints played their final non-conference match of the season, defeating the Linfield Wildcats 3-0.
Saint Martin's (10-4, 0-4 GNAC) tied their record win total from last season with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-13 sweep of Linfield (5-4, 1-1 NWC).
In the first set, the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game. SMU spend most of the set playing from behind but used a pair of 3-0 runs to close the deficit late in the set and take the lead. The Saints went on to win the set 25-23.
The second set was close until Saint Martin's broke away with a 7-0 run that included three aces by
Maddy Gooding. Despite Linfield's best efforts, SMU held on to win the set 25-15.
In the final set, the Saints led for almost the entire set and used their momentum to close out the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
Tia Allen posted a double-double with 20 kills and 12 digs. Gooding had six aces, four kills and a block in the match.
Karla Soto had 35 assists and four aces.
Jennifer Soha was second in kills with nine.
Abigail Halstead led the team in digs with 15.
Giselle Benetti also posted double digits in digs with 11.
