MONMOUTH, Oreg. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (7-11, 3-7 GNAC) nearly pulled off their fourth straight win Saturday afternoon, but they couldn't hold on to a fourth quarter lead and were tripped up by a score of 72-63 by Western Oregon University (9-9, 3-7 GNAC).
The game started out fluid enough, but after the Saints went into the locker room with a five-point edge, the third quarter was plagued by constant whistles as the game turned more and more physical. A total of 56 free throws were shot throughout the night on account of 46 total fouls called. It was not painless either as the Saints took numerous knocks including a huge offensive foul drawn by
Lauryn Morris that backfired when she came up limp and had to sit out the remainder of the game.
Mya Hatchett-Groce was on the floor for just 10 minutes but notched a career-high 10 points, while both
Kiana Rios and
Anjel Galbraith led the way with 13 points.
Chenoa Louie came one point away from a double-double, scoring nine and grabbing 11 boards.
The Saints head the other way on the interstate on next Thursday, February 2
nd, when they play up at Seattle Pacific University (11-7, 6-4 GNAC). Tipoff is set for 5:15 PM at Brougham Pavilion.
