A Message of Gratitude from the Director of Athletics

To the Members of the Saint Martin's University Athletics Community:

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln, declared a national Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November. In 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt signed a Congressional resolution to make Thanksgiving, the fourth Thursday of November, a federal holiday. Today, the tradition often includes gathering with loved ones, watching/playing sports and indulging in family recipes of every kind.

But lest we not forget the spirit at the heart of this federal holiday, in between the downs of a neighborhood flag-football game or in between the bites of a grandparent's famous mash potatoes, let's be intentional in recognizing the many blessings that we ourselves enjoy.

From talented student-athletes, to dedicated coaches and staff, to generous alumni and benefactors, to collaborative colleagues and a selfless monastic community, Saints Athletics are blessed with countless gifts for which we are truly thankful. In the past year, we have celebrated a Valedictorian, an All-American, and multiple conference champions (individuals and team), among other accolades. These achievements are the product of the Saint Martin's community coming together in common cause and are a testament to the distinct attributes of our university's Catholic Benedictine tradition. Thank you for the instrumental role you have played in building and nurturing Saint Martin's intercollegiate athletic programs. We are thankful for your companionship in the ongoing pursuit of competitive excellence and the holistic development of our student-athletes in mind, body and spirit.

On behalf of Saint Martin's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, we would like to wish all of you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Go Saints!

Steve
