Scott Pitches Lights Out as Saints Take the Finale Against Owls

LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's baseball team (1-7) picked up their first win of the season Sunday afternoon with a dominant pitcher performance from Nikki Scott who was nearly untouchable in his home collegiate debut. Before the 7-2 win over Oregon Tech (7-4), the Owls took the first four games of the series by scores 5-2, 5-1, and 3-2. Scott wasn't the only stellar pitcher for SMU, as Blaze Wong, Justice Yamashita, Cole Hatton and Colin Driscoll each had stellar outings as well in their respective games.

The first game started off rough for SMU as Oregon Tech put four runs across in the first four innings. Mark Steward notched the first RBI of the contest with a sac fly into left scoring Brady Bean, while the other run for the Saints came via an RBI single from Kyle Schabot. Wong came out of the pen in the fourth and shined for the final six innings. Over that time he allowed just four hits, one run, and struck out four.
Final: Oregon Tech 5, Saint Martin's 2

The second game was a Yamashita classic as the ace from Hawaii nearly had a perfect game going into the sixth inning as the only baserunner that had reached was hit by a pitch. Not only was he limiting baserunners, Yamashita also set a career-high mark of 12 strikeouts in the six innings of work that he put in. With a 1-0 lead thanks to a Dylan McLaughlin run scoring single in the fourth, OIT fought back in the sixth however with a their first hit of the ballgame making it 2-1 Owls. They tacked on one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to complete the victory.
Final: Oregon Tech 5, Saint Martin's 1

Multiple pitchers showed up for Saint Martin's in this one as starter Cole Hatton came out well and fired 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, no earned runs and striking out seven. Colin Driscoll came out of the pen to do absolutely gnarly work, allowing one hit and striking out four in his 3.2 innings of relief. A bases loaded walk by Alohi Arecchi and a Schabot sac fly produced two runs for SMU, but three in the fifth from the Owls had the Saints trailing by one. In the bottom of the ninth, SMU got the potential tying run to third base before the magic ran out on a 3-1 groundout.
Final: Oregon Tech 3, Saint Martin's 2

It was all Saints in game number four of the series as the offense had been pent up for too long and Griffin Williams came through with a huge hit in the first. With the bases juiced, the Saints outfielder belted a shot deep into left field that had Michael Yamaguchi, Schabot, and Trevor McCorkle all scoring to make it 3-0. The offense kept coming in the third when Yamaguchi knocked an RBI single to make it four, and McCorkle hit a deep sac fly to go up 5-0. Yamaguchi came through in the clutch once again in the sixth as he had another run scoring single, before McCorkle followed that up with a bases loaded walk to get SMU up to seven.

Nikki Scott got the start and earned his first collegiate win going five innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. Carson Jones pitched the final two frames and also struck out four. Apart from Yamaguchi, Brady Bean also had a two-hit contest, while McCorkle had his second triple of the year for SMU.
Final: Saint Martin's 7, Oregon Tech 2
