TACOMA, Wash. – The Saint Martin's baseball team (12-21, 9-11 GNAC) will have a rare opportunity this Wednesday, as they get the chance to participate in a cross-divisional rivalry at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington. Cheney is home to the Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, meaning that the majority of Mariners roster had Cheney as their last stop before being called up to the bigs. In their game on Wednesday night, SMU will take on the host University of Puget Sound Loggers (16-12, 10-11 NWC) at 6 PM. This game will be preceded by a FREE Saint Martin's tailgate from 4-6, which you can register for at
SMUSaints.com/tacomatailgate.
The festivities don't stop there, as former star middle infielder for the Saints, Nic Lind, will throw out the first pitch to represent SMU. Lind was a two-year starter for the Saints after transferring from Big Bend CC. In his time in Lacey, he was a First Team All-Conference player, led the team to their first ever Regional Tournament Appearance, and led the team in average, slugging percentage, home runs, doubles, and RBIs. He is currently the Owner of Commencement Bay Brokers Real Estate which founded with fellow baseball alumnus Joe Toner. He has stayed an active member of the Saint Martin's family by being a current member of Saint Martin's University National Alumni Board, assisting the organizing and sponsoring of the first Saint Martin's University Baseball Alumni Game, as well as establishing the Nic and Emily Lind scholarship endowment to support Saint Martin's Men's Baseball.
