LACEY, WA — The Saints Men's Soccer team (0-13-0, 0-7-0 GNAC) hosted the Yellowjackets this past Thursday in their second head-to-head contest of the season.
Saint Martin's picked up the pace on the offensive side of the ball in attempts, with
Cole Kartchner registering three shots on the day and one in the first ten minutes. The Saints' defense, spearheaded by
Zack Martin and
Judah Straight, would hold steady through the 20-minute mark of the contest, quickly picking up on MSU-Billings attacks as they happened.
Connor Leistiko would also register three saves on the day at the goalkeeper position, keeping the Yellowjackets from scoring immediately. MSU-Billings would finally find a crease in the SMU defense in the 21st minute, and while
Asher Sullivan would attempt a shot of his own to even the score, it would be for naught, as his shot would be saved. The Yellowjackets would strike just two minutes later, but the Saints would tighten back down to close the first half.
The Yellowjackets would be the ones to set the pace in the second half with multiple shots towards the Saints' goal attempted within just a few minutes of resuming play. MSU-Billings also played efficiently on defense, only allowing the Saints just a few chances to score. Straight and
Cole Sullivan would both set up for scoring opportunities, but neither would be able to find the back of the goal. The Saints would give up two more goals in the 64th and 77th minutes and would ultimately lose the contest, 4-0.
The Saints will have a bye this weekend as they prepare for the final stretch of their season.
