Volleyball Drops Three-Set Contest to Seawolves

SMU Volleyball was defeated by Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, October 26th, 3-0.

OLYMPIA, WA — Saint Martin's Volleyball (5-14, 3-8 GNAC) hosted the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves at South Puget Sound Community College this past Saturday in a conference contest.

The Seawolves would get off to a fast start in the first set, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. Emmy Hansen and Zoey Crimin would swing the set back in the Saints' favor thanks to multiple kills, but Alaska Anchorage was able to prevent SMU from a large scoring run and would claim the first set 25-20. Jennifer Soha and Emily Garten would keep the Saints close to start the second set, with both recording ten kills a piece on the offensive side of the ball. UAA would go on a scoring run that would see their lead extend to 13-7, and while the Saints would claw back into it with the added scoring efforts of Kingsley Mason, who would match Soha's and Garten's kill total of ten on the day, they would drop the second set by a score of 25-18.

The Saints would not be deterred by the previous two sets as the Saints started hot to begin the third set. The offense was set up by Tiffany Lam, who would record 20 assists on the day, along with Aundrea Oxentine, who had nine of her own. The offensive rotation of Soha, Garten, and Mason were able to land kills to keep pace with the Seawolves, but UAA would find ways to respond almost immediately. Senior libero Abigail Halstead would have an impressive showing, flying all around the court to make plays on the Seawolves' scoring attempts, and would record nine digs on the day. Halstead recorded her 1,000th career dig during the contest, cementing her place in Saints' history. Even with her career day, the Saints would lose the third set in a tough back-and-forth by a score of 25-22, resulting in a match loss. Tehani YamashitaMadison Thomas, and Nadia Gallegos would see the floor in multiple sets.

The Saints will be on the road until Thursday, November 14th. Get more details on their schedule, the upcoming Senior Day, and more here.
