Saints Men’s Soccer falls at home against Northwest Nazarene

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at home against Northwest Nazarene at Saints Field on Thursday, October 16.

After a tightly-contested 0-0 first half, the Nighthawks capitalized with three goals in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory for the visitors. 

How It Happened

  • The first 45 minutes was a tight, scoreless affair. The Saints saw three shots in the first half, all from Cole Sullivan — one was a shot on target. The Nighthawks totaled four shots.
  • The Saints were out shot 7-1 in the second half, and 3-1 in shots on target. Northwest Nazarene broke the scoreless tie in the 66th minute, as Baraka Dayi scored an unassisted goal.
  • Just over two minutes later, Caleb Putney scored to bring the score to 2-0 Nighthawks. David Campos added a goal in the 84th minute to put the Saints behind 3-0.
  • SMU saw a shot on goal from Dane Tschimperle in the second half, but the team was unable to find the back of the net as the time ticked out on a 3-0 defeat.
