LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Northwest Nazarene in the team's 2025 home opener at Saints Field on Thursday, October 2.
The Saints totaled 19 shots and six shots on goal, but an early goal by the Nighthawks proved to be the difference maker in a low-scoring affair.
How It Happened
- In the first 10 minutes, SMU held a 4-0 advantage in shots, one of which was a shot on goal attempt by Brooke Streeter.
- The Nighthawks scored the pivotal goal in the 13th minute, as Ellie Ritter made an efficient pass to Mackenzie Brown for a goal.
- The Saints held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but went into halftime trailing 1-0.
- Likewise in the second half, the Saints held an advantage in total shots, leading the Nighthawks 9-7.
- SMU totaled three shots on goal in the second half, and tallied four shots in the final four minutes of play, but ultimately were unable to find an equalizing goal, falling 1-0 to NNU.
