Women’s Soccer defeated 1-0 against No. 19 Simon Fraser

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team lost its home match against No. 19 Simon Fraser 1-0 at Saints Field on Saturday, October 25.

The game was closely contested and Saint Martin's held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the second half, but SMU was unable to overcome an early 0-1 deficit and fell at home by a one-goal differential.

How It Happened

  • The first 15 minutes saw the Saints tally two shots on goal, one by Annika Akiona and one by Phoebe Knellhorne.
  • In the 17th minute, Abbey Simpson scored for the Red Leafs off an assist from Emi MacAdam. The score would hold until halftime, as the Saints were unable to record any further shot attempts in the first half following the first goal.
  • Out of halftime, the Saints saw shots on goal from Nora Melcher and Eve Charles within the first six minutes of play. SMU saw three shots on goal in the second half and held a 5-2 advantage in total shots, but the team was unable to make up any ground and fell by a final score of 1-0.
