LANGLEY, B.C. — The Saint Martin's Women's Basketball team opened its 2025-26 season with a 54-41 victory against Minot State at the DII Canadian Tip-Off Classic in Langley, B.C. on Friday, October 31.
After trailing 13-0 at the start of the game, the Saints stormed back to level the contest, which remained closely-contested until a dominant fourth quarter propelled Saint Martin's to a 1-0 start to the 2025-26 season.
How It Happened
	- The Saints got off to a slow start out of the gates, going 0-8 from the field and falling behind 13-0, while the Beavers started off 4-6 from the field, three of which were from three-point range.
	
		- Saint Martin's flipped the script in the second half of the first quarter, turning on the gas for a 12-0 run to crawl back within one point — the Saints shot 4-5 during the run and ended the first quarter trailing 13-12.
 
	
	 
	- Both Saint Martin's and Minot State mirrored each other in the second quarter, going 4-12 from the field and 1-5 from three-point range. The Saints went 4-8 at the free-throw line and knotted the game at 25-25 heading into halftime.
 
	- A layup by Avery Oaster opened the second-half scoring and gave Saint Martin's a 27-25 lead, the team's first lead of the game.
 
	- The Beavers and Saints played out an even 10-10 third quarter, setting up a do-or-die fourth quarter with the game tied at 35-35.
 
	- The fourth quarter was all Saints, as Saint Martin's shot 8-17 from the field and 3-9 from three-point range. Jada Travis and Laiken Hill hit back-to-back three pointers out of the gates to put Saint Martin's up 41-35. After Minot State responded with a three, the Saints responded with a resounding 11-0 run to take a commanding 52-38 lead with 1:12 remaining. The Saints held off any late comeback efforts from the Beavers, winning 51-41 in the team's 2025-26 season opener.
 
Top Performers
	- Jada Travis led all players with 28 points off 11-24 shooting from the field and 6-14 shooting from beyond the arc. She also grabbed six rebounds and totaled two steals, one assist, and one block. The sophomore's 28 points tied a career high for points in a game.
 
	- Freshman Harper Wagner led all players with 11 rebounds. Kiana Rios grabbed eight boards.
 
	- Avery Oaster totaled six points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
 
Team Stats
	- The Saints shot 20-60 (33.3%) from the field and 7-27 (25.9%) from three-point range.
 
	- Saint Martin's held a 40-30 advantage in team rebounding and forced 17 turnovers.
 
	- SMU capitalized off 22 points in the paint, 10 second-chance points, and nine points off turnovers.
