CHICO, Calif. — The Saint Martin's Women's Basketball team lost to Chico State 75-69 in Chico, California on Friday, December 12.
Saint Martin's closed the gap after a slow first quarter, but was unable to complete the comeback in a high-scoring second half. The loss dropped the Saints' record to 6-4 overall.
How It Happened
First Quarter
- The Saints struggled shooting in the first quarter, but converted four three-pointers to stay in contention. Chico State came out firing, going 11-15 (73.3%) in the first quarter and building a 28-14 lead over Saint Martin's.
Second Quarter
- After a high-scoring opening frame, both teams' offensive production simmered, as Chico State out scored Saint Martin's 9-7.
- The Saints cut the deficit to 28-18 at the 6:14 mark, but Chico State pushed the lead to 16 (37-21) at halftime.
Third Quarter
- Saint Martin's closed the gap with a strong third quarter, trimming the deficit to as low as five points midway through the frame. Jada Travis hit a three-pointer at the 5:42 mark, trimming Chico State's lead to 39-34.
- After the Wildcats pulled back ahead 49-38, Laiken Hill converted two free-throws and later a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 49-43 heading into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Early in the fourth quarter, a three-pointer by Jada Travis cut the Chico State lead down to 51-49 with 8:42 left in regulation.
- The Wildcats responded with a 14-2 run, putting Saint Martin's behind 65-51 with 3:04 left in the fourth.
- The Saints put together one last run, trimming the deficit to single digits down the stretch. Despite cutting Chico State's lead back down to six points, the Saints were unable to make up any further ground and lost 75-69.
Top Performers
- Jada Travis led the Saints with 22 points, and added seven rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block.
- Laiken Hill totaled 19 points off 6-10 shooting and 5-10 shooting from three-point range.
