COEUR D'ALENE, Ida. — The Saint Martin's Men's Golf team concluded its 2024-2025 season in Idaho at the GNAC Championships.
As the tournament began,
Gavin Klein took charge for the Saints, posting an impressive 70 through the first round. His great start carried him to a sixth-place finish individually, ending up with a final score of 215 (+2). He would be followed closely in the final rounds by teammate
Carter Sheets, who improved from his round-one score of 78 by 11 strokes in the second round, scoring a 67, and rounding out his efforts with a final score of 216 (+3) to finish in seventh place. Head Coach
Anne Bahr noted Klein's tournament as a standout performance:
"I was very impressed with Gavin Klein as his game continued to be steady. His 6th place finish was well-deserved. I know he was frustrated with his ball striking, and I commend him for his ability to stay focused and keep grinding until the end. He made it work while relying heavily on his short game and was able to finish strong as our leader for the Saints."
Bahr also highlighted Carter's finish to the GNAC Championships:
"Carter's 67 in the second round was huge, especially considering the course conditions were less than ideal. He has put in a lot of work with specific aspects of his swing in the last two weeks and I was happy to see it all come together in our final tournament of the year."
Rasmus Tamker would have a strong finish to his season, finishing in 11th place with a mark of 220 (+7), which was capped off with an impressive round-three score of 70.
Davis Sheets and
Henry Sanders would round out SMU's team effort with individual placements of 18th and 21st respectively, highlighted by both golfers posting scores of 75 each in the second round. The team finished fourth overall. With no graduating seniors, the Men's Golf program is excited to look towards next season, as noted by Coach Bahr:
"It was a successful season on the men's side. We were rebuilding this season and have a bright future ahead with everyone returning from this year's group as well as two incoming freshmen. I know the guys will be putting in work throughout the summer and I'm excited to hit the ground running with them in September."
The Saints will be back in action for the 2025 fall season.
