LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team fell 5-1 against Chico State in its 2025 home opener at Saints Field on Thursday, September 11.
The Saints took an early 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but the Wildcats quickly bounced back and went on to score five goals unanswered. SMU will be back in action at home on Sept. 13 against No. 14 Stanislaus State.
How It Happened
- Both teams went back-and-forth to start, as the first shot attempt came in the 18th minute.
- In the 21st minute, Jonathan Wright scored on a goal assisted by Paul Lopez, giving Saint Martin's a 1-0 lead.
- Less than a minute after SMU's goal, Adrian Solis scored an equalizer for the Wildcats. Chico State also added a goal in the 38th minute, taking a 2-1 advantage into halftime. The Saints totaled five shots in the first half, compared to six for Chico State. Both teams took five corner kicks in the first half.
- After a scoreless 23 minutes to start the second half, the Wildcats put the game away with goals in the 74th, 77th, and 89th minute.
