Saints Baseball splits road series at Central Washington 2-2

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Baseball team split its road GNAC series at Central Washington this weekend in Ellensburg, Washington.

After falling in both games on day one of the four-game series, the Saints bounced back to take  9-3 and 9-0 wins on day two. The series moved the Saints' record to 13-34 overall and 5-23 in GNAC play.

Game 1: Saint Martin's 7, Central Washington 13

  • The Wildcats built a steady lead in game one, scoring two runs in both the second and fourth innings, before a five-run fifth inning put the Saints behind 9-0. CWU added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 11-0.
  • The Saints made a push in the top of the seventh, rallying for seven runs.
  • The Saints were unable to make up any further ground in the remaining innings, as the WIldcats added two runs in the eighth and went on to win 13-7.

Game 2: Saint Martin's 1, Central Washington 2

  • The second game of the series was low-scoring on both sides, as each team went scoreless for the first six innings. Norman Hudson pitched a shutout six innings to start the game and keep the Wildcats off the board.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Saints pulled ahead with a sacrifice-fly by Camden Dickey to score Isaac Hoag.
  • The Saints retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh and moved one out away from a 1-0 win.
    • The Wildcats rallied with a single and two consecutive walks to load the bases with two outs. Central Washington capitalized off two straight hit-by-pitch batters, earning a 2-1 walkoff win over the Saints.

Top Performers

  • Norman Hudson pitched 6.2 innings and struck out four batters, allowing two runs off six hits.
  • Carson Dunn went 2-3.

Game 3: Saint Martin's 9, Central Washington 3

  • The Saints started off a high-scoring day with a two-run first inning, as Alohi Arecchi doubled to score Kyle Schabot and Carson Dunn, giving Saint Martin's a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Wildcats evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI double, before the Saints scored two more runs in the top of the second by way of a two-RBI single by Kyle Schabot.
  • In the top of the third, the Saints extended the advantage to 8-2 with a two-RBI double by Kelton Tom and an error that saw Kelton Tom and Evan Nicol cross home plate. In the top of the fourth, Evan Nicol grounded out to score Kyle Schabot, putting the Saints ahead 9-2.
  • Central Washington scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints' pitching and defensive efforts kept the Wildcats off the board for the final four innings, securing a 9-3 victory.

Game 4: Saint Martin's 9, Central Washington 0

  • The Saints ended the series with an emphatic 9-0 victory, totaling 13 hits on the day.
  • Both teams went scoreless for the first three innings, before the Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth off an RBI double from Bransyn Hong and a sacrifice fly by Kelton Tom.
  • Saint Martin's pushed the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth with an RBI double from Noah Albanese and an RBI single by Alohi Arecchi.
  • The Saints erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth, extending the lead to 9-0.

The Saints will close out the regular season at home against Western Oregon on April 30-May 1. Saint Martin's will celebrate senior day on May 1 at Saints Baseball Field.
