LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team picked up its third win of the season, defeating Chaminade 4-2 at Saints Soccer Field on Thursday, September 10.
Despite a one-goal deficit within the first two minutes, the Saints bounced back with four goals unanswered to take a commanding victory at home. The win improved the Saints' record to 3-2 on the year.
How It Happened
- Just 1:50 into the match, Chaminade scored on the first shot of the game as Vlad Tomutiu scored off an assist from Oliver Horgan.
- The Saints saw their first two shots of the game in the 25th and 26th minute, but were held scoreless through the first 28 minutes of play. In the 29th, Jackson Rotondo scored a deep goal, unassisted, to level the game at 1-1.
- Four total yellow cards followed the Saints' equalizer, before Grant Deuel scored an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute to put Saint Martin's ahead 2-1. Deuel saw his first shot attempt saved, before sending the next shot into the back of the net. The 2-1 advantage held through halftime.
- Saint Martin's took a commanding 3-1 lead in the 51st minute, as Gran Deuel scored his second goal of the match. Juan Diaz led a pass to Xander Koenig, who sent the ball into Deuel for the goal.
- The Saints expanded their lead to 4-1 in the 67th minute, as Corbin Herrera stole the ball at midfield and chipped the keeper to score from long range and put Saint Martin's ahead 4-1.
- Chaminade scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute, but the Saints held on to win 4-2.
