LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team lost its home match 2-1 against Montana State Billings on Saturday, September 19.
The Saints held a 23-7 advantage in shots and a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal, but were ultimately unable to find a late equalizer. The loss dropped the Saints' record to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- The Saints held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, as the first 37 minutes of the game remained scoreless on both sides.
- Saint Martin's saw first-half shots on goal from Nora Melcher, Kamryn Ellis (3), and Taegan Saragosa-Deocares.
- In the 38th minute, MSUB broke the scoreless tie with a goal from Kennedy Craig, assisted by Kolbi Kiblen. Saint Martin's went into halftime trailing 1-0.
- Kamryn Ellis and Nora Melcher each had additional shots on goal within the first 11 minutes of the second half, but the Yellowjackets doubled the lead to 2-0 with a 57th-minute goal scored by Abby Thompson, assisted by Jordyn Daigle and Cianna Sexton.
- The Saints kept up the offensive tempo and saw a 69th-minute goal from Bella Gonzales off an assist by Nora Melcher, trimming the deficit to 2-1.
- Saint Martin's saw five total shows in the final 21 minutes, including shots on goal by Cora Murray and Nora Melcher, but were unable to score an equalizer and fell 2-1 at the final whistle.
