Saints' Basketball Signs BJ Standley From St Patrick-St Vincent

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's Men's Basketball head coach Alex Pribble announced the final signee of the 2017-18 recruiting class with guard B.J. Standley from Vallejo, California.

"We're very excited about the addition of BJ to this program," said Pribble. "He's a tough, competitive point guard with natural leadership abilities. He's a proven winner, he's a good student, and he's a team-first guy. He has the ability to score and distribute, and he's got a great feel for the game."

Standley will be joining his teammate Tavian Henderson, who signed with Saint Martin's last month, this upcoming season. Standley averaged 15.5 points per game in his senior season with St. Patrick St. Vincent high school in Vallejo, California, which ended with a Division IIII State Championship, the first in school history. He capped off his senior season by averaging 5.9 assists per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 3.0 steals per game in 33 games.

"BJ has tremendous quickness. He will bring an immediate change of pace anytime he's on the floor," Pribble said. "He's different from anyone else on our roster and has the potential to make an immediate impact. Coach Walker at St. Patrick St. Vincent's has done a tremendous job with both BJ (Standley) and Tavian (Henderson), and we look forward to seeing their chemistry continue to develop at Saint Martin's."

Standley leaves St. Patrick St. Vincent as a highly decorated player, with four selections to the All-League team, including his junior and senior year as a first team member. The four-year starter was selected to the MaxPreps Division IIII second team and named team captain by his teammates. He excelled not only on the court, but also in the classroom, earning a spot on the Honor Roll his junior year.

Standley marks the eighth and final recruit to sign with Saint Martin's this spring. Joining him on next year's squad will be Henderson, Matt Dahlen (Oregon State), Luke Chavez (South Puget Sound CC), E.J. Boyce (San Jose State), Caden Smith (Pendleton HS), Jared Mathews (Blue Mountain CC), and Cameron Chatwin (Saint Martin's).

"As a whole, this recruiting class has the potential to be special," said Pribble. "We have a lot of guys who are not only talented players with a history of winning - but just as importantly, they have huge potential. These guys want to come to Saint Martin's and develop, they want to get better, they want to see how good they can be. I'm excited to get to work with these young men, and I'm excited to see our coaching staff work with them."
