SAN MARCOS, Calif. – After throwing up 94 the previous night against Holy Names, Saint Martin's offense was unable to convert, falling 76-60 to San Marcos on Saturday afternoon.
Down low, the Saints (1-1) found a lot of success with
Marky Adams and
Brett Reed combining for 24 points, and 16 rebounds. However, outside of the two, the Saints as a team went 12-for-33, including 4-for-13 beyond the arc.
Both sides started off quick with San Marcos (2-0) leading 12-11 just six minutes into the game. However, the Cougars went on a 9-0 run to open a double-digit lead midway through the first half.
Cal State San Marcos's led extended to as many as 16 in the first half before eventually heading into halftime with a 44-30 lead.
Saint Martin's was unable to make a run into the Cougars' lead throughout the second half as the offense shot just 40 percent from the field. The Saints left 13 points as the line as the team finished 12-for-25.
Christian Haffner and
Jaden Nielsen-Skinner combined for 17 points and five assists to power the Saints guard play. As a team, Saint Martin's committed 15 turnovers to eight assists.
