Saints Fall To Hot Handed Academy of Art

Brett Reed Records Second Straight Double-Double

BELMONT, Calif. – For the second straight game, Brett Reed amassed a double-double; however, the Saints were unable to slow down Academy of Art's offense, falling 90-78.

Saint Martin's (3-2) defense struggled to find answers against Academy of Art's (3-3) attack as the Urban Knights shot better than 51 percent from the field. The Saints scored 40 points in the paint, led by Reed's 23 points, along with his 12 rebounds. Alex Schumacher notched a 21-point performance, and Kyle Greeley was the only other Saint to reach double-digits with 12 points.

Art U jumped out to an early 14-7 lead in the opening five minutes. Saint Martin's managed to chip away at the lead and eventually took a 25-20 lead at the 10:30 mark. A 12-0 run by the Saints was capped off by baskets from Schumacher and Reed.

Both sides went back-and-forth down the stretch of the half, with Art U finding a way to take a 43-36 lead into the break.

Out of halftime, Art U's lead touched double-digits after back-to-back baskets. The lead proved to be too much for the Saints as they were only able to slim it down to six for the rest of the half.

Saint Martin's improved their shooting in the second half overall from 38 to nearly 46 percent from the field. However, the Saints went 3-13 from beyond the arc in the second half, and were unable to keep pace.

Saint Martin's returns to action on Saturday, November 27 at 7:30 PM against Cal State Monterey Bay. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.

A Look Into The Numbers:

  • 12 of Schumacher's 21 points came from beyond the arc
