Saints Show Up & Show Out at GNAC Indoor Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Saints made their mark at the GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with three podium finishes and 18 top-10 finishes highlighted by Hewie Nguyen's second place finish in men's long jump.

In his first appearance at a GNAC Championship, freshman Hewie Nguyen was the top finisher for Saint Martin's with a mark of 6.97m (22-ft, 10.5-in) which fell shy of first place by 0.01m and surpassing the third place finisher by 0.01m.
 
Jocelyn Saribay placed third in women's weight throw with a mark of 15.97m (52-ft, 4.75-in) and fourth in women's shot put with a mark of 11.55 (37-ft, 10.75-in).
 
In the women's 5000m, Sara Sabra finished third with a time of 18:20.62.
 
Andrew Boyd competed in the men's heptathlon and placed third in the 60m,  fourth in the 60m hurdles, fifth in the 1000m, fourth in the high jump, seventh in the long jump, sixth in the pole vault, and second in the shot put for a fourth place finish overall in the heptathlon with 4451 total points.
 
In the women's 3000m, Alauna Carstens finished fifth with a time of 10:29.29 and Sabra finished right behind her in sixth with a time of 10:30.71.
 
Alisha Saucedo ran a 2:21.58 in the women's 800m for a fifth place finish in the event.
 
The combined team of Kainalu Pagente, Zachary Franco, John Farrell and Isaac Cortes competed in the men's distance medley and finished fourth with a time of 10:19.22.
 
In the women's distance medley, Naomi Hartley, Cree Bell, Alisha Saucedo and Alauna Carstens teamed up to place fifth in the event with a time of 12:35.59.
 
In women's pole vault, Claire Skaggs finished sixth after clearing of 2.98m (9-ft, 9.25-in).
 
Ryan Doidge was the sole representative for SMU in men's pole vault and cleared 3.55m (11-ft, 7.75-in) for a seventh place finish.
 
Head coach Scott Carter was proud of his team's performance at the meet, "We competed really strong as team this weekend. We entered the meet not fully healthy as a squad, and needed some athletes to step up big for us. We had countless PR's and breakthroughs from the team this weekend and I feel we are set up to have a really strong outdoor season."
 
Next on the slate for the Saints will be the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite on February 24-25th. This will be the last meet that goes towards qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9-11th.
