ELLENSBURG, WA — Saint Martin's Track & Field team impressed on the first day of the GNAC Championships on Friday, May 10. Conditions in Ellensburg were hot, and the Saints were on fire!
Led by senior
Alisha Saucedo's school-record-breaking performance in a preliminary heat of the 800m, the Saints scored in multiple events and produced six PRs.
Ethan Guidry and
Andrew Boyd were the first to tally points with fourth-place and seventh-place finishes in the javelin, Guidry narrowly missing the podium by a meter in the final throw of the finals with a final mark of 59.51 meters (195' 03"). Andrew Shultz picked up two points in the men's long jump (6.92 meters), while
Connor Olmstead earned one point in the men's high jump with a final mark of 1.82 meters.
Sara Sabra concluded Friday's action, earning a point for an eighth-place finish in the women's 10,000m with a time of 33:44.39. Preliminary performances by Saucedo in the women's 800m, Madison Vu in the women's 200/400m preliminaries, and Zachary Franco in the men's 400m earned them places in Saturday's finals. Gabriela Cintron (women's 110m hurdles), Madison Vu (women's 200m),
Timmy Higgins (men's 800m), Saucedo (women's 800m), and Andrew Shultz (men's long jump) are further evidence of the progress this team has made over the course of both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
In addition to Saucedo, Vu, and Franco who will be competing in the final heats of their events on Saturday, the Saints are looking forward to producing more season best performances in the men's triple jump (
