SPOKANE, WA — The Saint Martin's University Track & Field team delivered a series of standout performances at the 2025 GNAC Indoor Championships, achieving top finishes and making history in the program's record books.
The Saints got off to an impressive start on Monday, highlighted by
Jocelyn Saribay, who was crowned the GNAC Champion in the weight throw. The senior from Waipahu, Hawaii is the first athlete in Saint Martin's history to win a conference title in the women's weight throw with an impressive mark of 16.08m. Saribay felt that she was ready for the challenge:
"Over the past couple days many people have said to me "well deserved" and I just can't help to think how badly I wanted that championship title. I knew I had it in me, it was just a matter of when; It may have taken five years but blessed is an understatement, I have worked to put my tears, blood, and everything I got for that moment and it paid off in the most perfect moment. I spoke that gold medal into existence any chance I got. Right before I started warmups I walked up to the girl who was in charge of distributing the medals and asked her if I could just see the women's weight throw gold medal and I told her I'd be back for it after the event. I'm so glad I was able to make history and just take home that win my last ever indoor championship, I still can't believe it myself."
Additionally, Jocelyn took fourth place in the women's shot put. Jocelyn is looking forward to competing in her last outdoor season as a Saint and hopes to bring home more hardware in the coming months.
Ryan Doidge set a new personal best in the pole vault, claiming the GNAC silver medal while earning the #2 all-time mark in school history with a 4.65m mark. The distance medley relay team comprised of
Kainalu Pagente,
Samuel Gray,
Timmy Higgins, and
Elijah Dale put in a strong effort, placing fifth overall and etching their name at #5 on the SMU all-time list.
Makhi Odoms would have stellar performances across the board, taking home second place in the triple jump with a personal record of 14.17m and finishing sixth in the long jump with a 6.79m mark.
Alyssa Duncan took fifth place in the women's long jump while Hakim Zongo took seventh in the men's triple jump. Meanwhile, Gray displayed his sprinting prowess, qualifying for the finals in both the 60m and 200m.
The day was filled with exceptional performances across the team, with athletes achieving 12 personal records and two season bests. The men's team scored 35 points and ended up taking seventh place overall. The women's team earned 23 points leaving them at a tie for eighth.
With multiple podium finishes, record-breaking performances, and an impressive number of PRs, the Saints showcased their growth and determination at the GNAC Indoor Championships. The team's success reflects their hard work and sets a promising tone for the upcoming outdoor season.
