Chalkley and Larson Throw Their Way To All-Conference Honors

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Saints added two more All-Conference honors in the throws, with Liz Larson in hammer and Brian Chalkley in the javelin finishing third overall to wrap up the 2018 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Western Oregon.

DAY ONE RECAP
 
Chalkley only needed his first throw of the day to earn GNAC All-Conference honors in the javelin, hitting a new PR with a mark of 65.23-meters. Chalkley even passed on all three of his attempts in the finals, and still managed a top three finish.
 
Larson was the third Saint to earn All-Conference honors at the meet, finishing third overall with a mark of 54.14-meters. Her All-Conference throw came on her second attempt in the finals and fifth throw of the day.
 
Kauanoe Vanderpoel just narrowly missed the cut to be GNAC All-Conference in the Hammer, finishing fourth with a mark of 56.33-meters. A season best for Vanderpoel, came on his third throw of the day. His teammate Cade Harris was 21st in the event at a mark of 40.53-meters.
 
Deanna Avalos was fifth in the javelin with her first throw of the day hitting 44.85-meters. Sarah Howsden in the javelin finished 15th with her throw of 32.44-meters.
 
Ariya Kendrick shined in the 100-meter hurdles finals, taking sixth overall with a personal best time of 14.83 seconds. She surpassed her PR by nearly 0.30 seconds en route to three points for the Saints.
 
In the relays, Saint Martin's in the men's 4x100 was sixth overall with a time of 43.24 seconds. The team made up of Logan Armstrong, Josh Schulz, Guillaume Tabary and Jackson Hand earned three points for the Saints.
 
Over in the women's 4x100 relay, history was made when Ariya Kendrick, Taylor Tandecki, Alycia Fraser and Artresa Nickelson broke the school record by 0.10 seconds with a time of 49.32 seconds. The team came in fifth overall and earned four points for the Saints.
 
The men's 4x400 relay earned one point for the Saints, finishing with a time of 3:22.38 minutes.
 
Jasper Heckman finished 14th overall in the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:43.97 minutes. His fastest lap was a 1:12.27 time, coming on his third lap.
 
"Great weekend of the Saints," said head coach Jim Brewer. "We had some solid performances with three All-Conference achievements. Coach Atanas has done an excellent job with our sprints, hurdles and jumps groups. Our throwers really stepped up by gettings us some good points on the boards. Coaches Cassidy, Dwight and Paul have continued to elevate our throws program. As a program and staff, we are looking forward to next year and continue to move up in the conference."
 
On the men's side, the Saints collected 20 points to finish ninth overall while the women also finished ninth with 23.5 points.
