Jimmy Ennis was one of the outstanding coaches of his era and was a legend in the scholastic coaching circles of Washington. In 1940 and 1941, Saint Martin’s College finished last in football in the Washington Intercollegiate Conference. In 1942 under Ennis, Saint Martin’s finished second, losing the conference championship 9-6 to Eastern with less than one minute to play. Ennis went on to coach at Washington State and in 1947 returned to his hometown of Everett where he was the football coach and athletic director for more than 30 years. He was inducted into Saint Martin's Hall of Fame in 1991.
