Robert “Windy” Donaldson played guard and center on the Saint Martin’s basketball teams of 1939-40 and 1940-41. An aggressive rebounder with great jumping ability, he was also an exceptional defensive player and was always assigned to defend the opposing team’s best player. He is best remembered for his quick and accurate passing. In a style similar to Bob Cousey a decade later, Donaldson would throw the ball behind his back, behind his head and between his opposing player’s legs. This unique ability earned him the title “Houdini” of the Washington Intercollegiate Confernce. His son, John, was a Saint Martn’s basketball player 1962-64 and his grandson Todd was a 1988-90 letterman.
