A walk-on transfer sudent to Saint Martin’s College, Mike Bruener went on to become a consensus All-American in basketball. Bruener played during the 1963-64 and 1964-65 seasons and led the 1964-65 team to the District NAIA playoffs. During the 1964-65 season, he led the nation in rebounding, was named both Little All-American and NAIA All-American and was named to the District I NAIA All-Star team. In just two years, Bruener set a school record for points with 1,235. During the 1965-66 season, he was the college JV basketball coach.
